Types of cement

  1. OPC Cement: Ordinary portland cement is a common types of cement that comes in various grades like OPC-33, OPC-43, OPC-53, where number signifies its compressive strength. Higher grade cement offer better strength. So, if you are using OPC grade cement for your construction alaways choose OPC-53 grade to maximizes strength of construction. As this cement has no blended material so, It is not environmental friendly.
  2. PPC Cement: PPC ,means Portland Pozzolana cement. This cement has blended Pozzolanas material that is Fly ash, which is added to OPC grade cement to make it more environmental friendly. This cement reduces heat of hydration. Also has better applicability against water seepage.
  3. PSC Cement: Portland slag cement is obtained by adding blast furnace slag into OPC cement. This cement is used nowadays in modern construction as its has many advantages. This cement offers best protection against water seepage also due to low heat of hydration occurrences of cracks reduces.

Important points to consider

  • Packaging: Always choose ISI marked cement. Properly check expiry date, cement packaging, grade and type of cement.
  • Manufacturer details: Manufacturer details are mark in bold on cement bag. Always select quality manufacturer for better strength of structures.
  • Availability: Cement that are available in your nearby market are best if they are from reputed manufacturer, As it cut down your transportation expenses. That reduces cost of construction.
